A number of professionals today are getting compelled to improve their skills to enhance their performance within the workplace and stay abreast of the trends, developments and technological changes defining their specialized responsibilities. Besides fulfilling the existing requirements of the jobs, they also need to continuously built their domain specific to perform better at work and move up to the growth curve.
Recognizing the fact, the TNI is offering intensive hands-on workshop on IT applications in libraries. The mission is to create a pool of highly qualified and service oriented professionals who will meet the manpower requirements of libraries, and to help the users to meet their information requirements at national and global level.

o To develop the professional competencies of the library and information professionals.
o To provide opportunities for in-depth practical & hands-on training to enhance technological skills of the library professionals to develop and manage computerized library and information centre.

To prepare library and information professionals to build library and information centers of excellence for knowledge society and national development.

Programme Objectives:
* To develop knowledge and skills of computer technology and its applications in library and information management
* To understand the basic requirements of the library automation and information services
* To acquaint participants about library software packages and develop skills in practical applications on library automation
* To acquire skills on networking and internet technology
* To develop internet skills with special reference to information resources available in different forms and subjects
* To develop website designing skills
* To provide awareness about the legal issues

* Bar-coding- hardware & stationery requirement, skills to handle
* Bar-code generation for Books & Borrowers Tickets
* Information sources- Internet, Intranet, Websites
* Networking
* E-mail – receiving, sending, storing
* Information retrieval: access, downloading, saving in different formats such as pdf,.doc,.rtf etc, scanning and OCR, file maintenance
* Designing of library web-site: Web page design, Introduction to HTML, Use of graphics in Web-design
* Database Development & Management - SQL, Access
* Collection Development- E-Books, E-Journals ( free and subscribed)
* Searching, Downloading, Storing & Printing
* RFID Technology- Why & How (Hardware requirements)
* Introduction to Hole-in-the-wall
* Information ethics & Law : Overview of the legal framework within which work with information operates, Legal rights of Authors or owners of Intellectual property rights, contractual arrangements & non-contractual liability.

Computer Lab
Fully Equipped computer lab having High-end user terminals with Internet, scanning and printing facilities.

Library Information centre:
NIIT Institute of Information Technology ,TNI Library is fully automated with internet facility. Library is using Libsys software for the computer applications in library management. Books and borrowers ticket are bar-coded and Barcode Scanner available at circulation counter for issue/return of books. Data entered in library software can be searched through Web-OPAC. Library is providing CAS & SDI services to all their members. Library Information centre has rich collection of books on Information Technology, Biotechnology, Educational Technology and other related areas. It subscribes 41 Journals and 8 Magazines. Relevant Articles from journals are indexed and Access is provided to all the users through Web-OPAC. Library Information centre has three user terminals with internet facility.
