Most of the people want computers to behave like human beings. This is because they are intimidated by the capabilities of this machine and use it for tasks such as that of a secretary or a teacher which are normally performed by humans. But all these tasks are performed for older children or adults. The use of computers to make them act as a playmate and caretaker for very young children was to be explored. CRCS developed Mommy-Go-Round is an experimental multimedia CD-ROM title that examines the hitherto unexplored area of computer interaction with very young children (age group 0-4 yrs.).

Mommy-Go-Round is the first cognitively engineered software of its kind. It is a highly interactive software that has the following innovative features.
  • A Toy Box full of toys that play with the child.
  • A Shelf with songs you can see and pictures that talk.
  • A virtually endless Picture Book.
  • A new surprise on the child's Birthday Bash .
  • Store precious memories of the little one in a Baby Book.
  • Learn about the child's development in the Parent's Guide.
The software also includes a Snooze Assistant, which is the first software based cry detection module in the world. It is an infant cry alarm that attempts to detect infant cries. Currently, all such available cry alarms are entirely hardware-based. Snooze Assistant is a no-additional-cost mechanism and uses the hardware available in a normal multimedia PC. It receives audio-signals from the microphone and analyses them to determine the presence of infant cry using spectral technique. The audio signals are passed through a Finite Impulse Response high-pass filter and then Fast-Fourier transformed to isolate the infant cry.

This project reflects the efforts of CRCS in the area of Self Organizing System.
