User Interface CBT

Every person has different styles of learning. To make learning effective, the learning material should be designed according to different learners' characteristics. This ensures better learning as each learner is presented the same information differently depending on his/her learning style. The learning material must also consider the prior knowledge of the learners and hence the information should be presented accordingly. To improve learning effectiveness in a Computer Based Training (CBT), CRCS has proposed a teaching package that takes into account all of the above-mentioned factors. This package uses a Cognitive User Interface (CUI) to assist and complement users' learning.

The CUI CBT is a cognitive CBT that has been designed to tune itself dynamically while in use according to the learning pattern of the user. In other words the same learning material in the CBT appears in a different manner for different users.
The requested information is interactively supplied through voice-feedback using Microsoft Agent - a set of programmable software services that support the presentation of interactive animated characters within the Microsoft Windows interface. The character within the system is used as an interactive assistant to introduce, guide, and entertain the learners. It responds using synthesized speech, recorded audio, or text. This has made the interface totally conversational leveraging natural aspects of human social communication. The software also has an optional Speech Recognition Engine that allows the learner to interact with the system through voice commands besides using the keyboard thus allowing dual input.
This project reflects the efforts of CRCS in the area of Human Computer Interfaces.
