Work at CRCS happens with an eclectic mix of people from different backgrounds and interest areas that vary from Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics to Psychology, Education, Communication and Design. However most of them are computer programmers and engineers.

CRCS was founded by Sugata Mitra. Sugata has a PhD in physics from IIT-Delhi. He has over 20 years of experience in computational physics, living systems, publishing, education, neural networks, multimedia, instructional design, cognitive and adaptive systems. Sugata is a member of New York Academy of Science, a UNDP consultant to Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, a member of IEEE and the Planetary Society, USA. He also a member of Special Interest Group on Virtual Reality. He is now Chief scientist Emeritus of NIIT Ltd and Professor of Educational Technology at University of Newcastle, UK.
