| CBTs are a popular means of learning today, as they allow learners to do self-paced learning at their convenience. NIIT is one of the leaders in the field of CBT creation. It caters to the CBT requirements of many countries through out the world. This requires the creation the same CBT in multiple languages leading to rebuilding and hence duplication of effort. To overcome this problem, CRCS worked on finding a way to convert the existing CBTs into multi-lingual CBTs without recreating them from the scratch. |

NIIT has been India’s leading CBT (Computer-Based Training) developer for sometime now. It has leveraged its strength in education delivery methods to build CBTs, which, till now, have been catering only to the English-speaking international market. But it was felt that a substantial number of non-English speaking people are being left out. Project P1-NextStep is an effort to bridge this gap. The project aimed at converting children’s multimedia educational title on Physics (Electromagnetism) into a bilingual package. The two languages chosen for this purpose were English and Hindi, both of which are widely spoken and accepted languages in India. The CBT also includes the components of Adaptive Computing where it tries to make itself more user-friendly and human-like on the basis of its interaction with the user. For example, the CBT runs in ‘Automode’, i.e., it runs automatically without the user’s intervention after calculating the user’s reading speed. |
